Abstract
The Federal Government has confirmed a boat carrying 21 Vietnamese asylum seekers destined for Australia was intercepted earlier this month. The 21 people on board, five of whom were children, had their claims assessed and rejected on board an Australian Navy ship and were sent back to Vietnam. The Government’s using the incident to warn that Labor will weaken border control and induce people smugglers to restart the boat trade to Australia.
